Our Responsibilities

Orion Pax Institute is committed to ensuring high standards of security, protection and safeguarding in our education and training provision and we take our responsibilities in this area very seriously, as they are crucial in the development and well-being of young people and adults alike.

Our Protection and Safeguarding of Children,Young People and Vulnerable Adults Policy , (copy available on request), reflects both the relevant legislation and good practice. This Policy is supported by our Anti- Harassment and Bullying Policy.

The Disclosure Barring Service (DBS), which replaced the former Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) service in 2012, enables employers to check the criminal records status of potential employees and existing employees, along with volunteers etc. This is in order to ascertain their suitability to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

DBS hold and manage lists of people barred from this type of work. And the Safeguarding Regulations introduced in 2009 place an obligation on employers, social services and professional regulators to notify the DBS of any relevant information.

It is a criminal offence for any debarred person to apply for work with children, young people or vulnerable adults, or for an employer to knowingly appoint them in a paid or unpaid capacity.

Enhanced Disclosure applies in relation to Orion Pax Institute as a community college and also the Orion Balcony Nursery.

There is effective 24 hour security in the shopping centre in which our premises are located, whilst OPI has good links with the local Safeguarding Board, Police, community organisations and other partners to help ensure swift and appropriate action is taken when necessary
