As an education and training provider, Orion Pax Institute provides a range of courses and programmes at different levels ( ie from basic to advanced, up to Level 5), in a variety of subject areas, in response to demand.
And we cater for learners of all ages, ( from 16 to well past 60), having different educational backgrounds and achievements, employed and unemployed, UK based or from overseas. At the last count we had learners from 35 different countries.
Currently we cover the following programmes:-
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
- Information Technology (IT) and Information Communication Technology (ICT)
- Health & Social Care
- Childcare/Early Years Development
- Health and Safety
- First Aid
- Food Safety/Hygiene
- Conflict Management
- Employment Skills and Preparation for Employment and Self Employment
- Awards, Certificates and Diplomas in Teaching in the further education/lifelong learning sector
- Assessor Qualifications
All the foregoing courses form part of an evolving English national Qualifications and Curriculum Framework (QCF) and are taught by our well qualified and experienced staff.
The majority are externally accredited and certificated through the awarding bodies by whom we are approved to offer qualifications (eg EDI, Pearson's, NCFE,CACHE and Highfield ABC). However, we also provide internally accredited courses with our own certification where learners prefer something less formal or intensive, or do not want to undertake externally verified examinations and assessment.
Courses can be short or longer term, full time or part time, day or evening, taking into account the level, structure, content and assessment requirements of each and subject to demand. We also run some intensive short courses and offer fast track options. The English Language courses are also available as short or longer courses for overseas students. Increasingly we are offering distance learning routes for our courses, using internet, email and phone contact, along with the direct delivery of material. But we are also experimenting with blended learning, using a combination of routes.
Whilst Class Based Learning (CBL) remains important for conveying under pinning knowledge and theory, also giving learners the opportunity to exchange information and ideas, we also make full use of Work Based Learning,(WBL) centred on the workplace and the jobs people are doing. Where our learners are unemployed, we arrange for them to undertake supervised work experience placements where these are important for the completion of particular training and qualifications.
Additionally, we provide Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) for all learners, along with both group and individual coaching and mentoring in employment preparation and career development, including job search, using the internet to identify opportunities, completing applications/curriculum vitae and in interview skills etc.
Supplementary learning support is available for learners with particular needs, difficulties or disabilities.
We also offer pastoral care and access to professional counselling where this will help individual learners.
In undertaking all of the above activities, Orion Pax Institute ensures that we keep in touch with employers and employers/trade associations in noting their requirements for trained staff.
We also seek to continuously research and note socio-demographic and economic trends, labor markets and educational developments world- wide, so that we can respond with appropriate services.
A proportion of the courses offered are funded through special grants from different funding regimes, whilst we also have self- funding students, especially from overseas.
OPI also provides sub contracted training for commissioning organisations.
Our overall goal is for Orion Pax Institute to continue to be a leading training provider of choice.
So help us to help you and let us know what you want to study and how.
